About Pete Cimino

Cimino opened 1968 with the Angels but appeared in only four games, going 0-0 with a 2.57 ERA over 7.0 innings before he was sold to the Seattle Angels of the Pacific Coast League that May, ending his major league career. His 1968 Topps card, #143, comes from the set's second print series. The same design, printed with a yellow-tinged back, was also used for the 1968 Milton Bradley Win-A-Card board game.

Pete Cimino was a hard-throwing right-handed pitcher who reached the majors with the Minnesota Twins and California Angels from 1965 through 1968. A Philadelphia native, he first drew national notice as a Bristol High School senior in January 1960, scoring 114 points in a single basketball game, still a Pennsylvania state record. The Washington Senators signed him that year for a bonus, and the Twins organization developed him through the minors, where he once struck out 20 batters in a Carolina League game. Cimino debuted with Minnesota in September 1965 and became a bullpen fixture in 1966. That December he was traded to the Angels in a multi-player deal that sent Dean Chance to the Twins. He pitched two more seasons for California before leaving the majors in 1968. Across four seasons he went 5-8 with a 3.07 ERA in 86 games. He is not a Hall of Famer.
