About Jimmie Hall
1968 Topps #121 catches Hall splitting the year between the Angels and the Cleveland Indians after a June trade for outfielder Vic Davalillo, the start of a part-time role that lasted the rest of his career. His output fell sharply to a .207 average with two home runs. A look-alike of this card came in Milton Bradley's Win-A-Card game that same year, identified by a yellow-tinged back.
Jimmie Randolph Hall was a left-handed hitting outfielder from Mount Holly, North Carolina, who spent seven years in the minor leagues before breaking through with the Minnesota Twins in 1963. That rookie season he set the American League record for home runs by a player with no prior big league experience, launching him into a two-time All-Star run built on raw power and a compact, self-taught swing. Hall played all three outfield spots for Minnesota, then moved on to the California Angels, Cleveland Indians, New York Yankees, Chicago Cubs, and Atlanta Braves as his power faded in the second half of the 1960s. He appeared in the 1965 World Series for the pennant-winning Twins. He is not a Hall of Famer.
