1969 Topps #313 Bill Robinson

About Bill Robinson
In his final Yankees season, Robinson played 87 games in 1969, splitting outfield duty and batting .171 with 3 home runs and 21 RBIs as his playing time shrank further. He spent all of 1970 in the minors before being dealt to the Chicago White Sox. His Topps #313, from the set's third print series, is his last card as a Yankee before his career resumed with the Phillies in 1972.
William Henry Robinson Jr. played sixteen big-league seasons, 1966 to 1983, as an outfielder who also logged time at first and third base, debuting with the Atlanta Braves as a pinch runner for Hank Aaron. Traded to the Yankees, he struggled to hold a regular job before finding his stride with the Phillies and then the Pirates, where his career peaked in 1977: a .304 average, 26 home runs and 104 RBIs. He reached the postseason three times with Pittsburgh, going 5-for-19 in the 1979 World Series as the Pirates rallied past Baltimore. Career totals: 1,472 games, a .258 average, 166 home runs and 641 RBIs. After retiring in 1983, Robinson became a respected hitting coach, mentoring Darryl Strawberry and Wally Backman with the Mets and later coaching for the Marlins, collecting three World Series rings across playing and coaching roles before his death in 2007.
