The story on this card

The 1969 American League batting race ended with Rod Carew of the Minnesota Twins at .332, Reggie Smith of the Boston Red Sox second at .309 and Tony Oliva of the Twins third, also at .309. Carew won the first of his seven batting titles in a year he stole home seven times, one short of Ty Cobb's record of eight and the most in the majors since Pete Reiser in 1946. Smith hit 25 home runs and drove in 93, up from 15 and 69 the year before. Oliva led the league with 197 hits and 39 doubles and drove in 101. The card, #62, is part of the League Leaders subset in the first series of 1970 Topps.

Rod Carew batted .328 over 19 seasons with the Twins and Angels. The second baseman and first baseman won seven American League batting titles, made 18 All-Star teams and entered the Hall of Fame in 1991. A switch-hitting outfielder with a cannon arm, Reggie Smith made seven All-Star teams and reached four World Series over a 17-year career with Boston, St. Louis, Los Angeles and San Francisco. Tony Oliva - Minnesota's smooth-swinging Cuban right fielder, the 1964 American League Rookie of the Year and a three-time batting champion who made the All-Star team in each of his first eight full seasons before knee injuries took over; Cooperstown called in December 2021.
