The story on this card
Harmon Killebrew of the Minnesota Twins led the 1969 American League with 49 home runs, Frank Howard of the Washington Senators hit 48, and Reggie Jackson of the Oakland Athletics hit 47. Jackson had 34 by July 5 while Howard had 30 and Killebrew 22, but his pace fell off in September. Howard batted .296 with 111 RBIs for an 86-76 Senators club, and Jackson led the league with a .608 slugging mark. Topps printed the three on #66 in the League Leaders subset of the first series in 1970.
Harmon Killebrew was the Twins' quiet, powerfully built slugger of the 1960s, a six-time American League home run champion who hit more homers in the decade than anyone else and won the 1969 AL Most Valuable Player award. Frank Howard - the 6-foot-7 "Capital Punisher": 1960 NL Rookie of the Year with the Dodgers, then a Washington Senators star who twice led the American League in home runs and was a four-time All-Star. Oakland outfielder Reggie Jackson attended Arizona State on a football scholarship. He played summer baseball for Walter Youse's amateur team in Baltimore before taking over Arizona State's center-field job from Rick Monday.
