1970 Topps #41 George Lauzerique

About George Lauzerique
George Lauzerique worked 19 games for the 1969 Oakland Athletics, eight as a starter, and went 3-4. He struck out 39 in 61 innings with a 4.70 ERA. Card #41, a first-series issue, shows him with Oakland. On December 7, 1969, the A's sent him and Ted Kubiak to the Seattle Pilots for Diego Segui and Ray Oyler.
George Lauzerique was a Cuban-born right-handed pitcher who reached the majors with the Kansas City/Oakland Athletics organization after signing out of the 1965 draft. He moved quickly through the minors, throwing a seven-inning perfect game for Birmingham in 1967, then debuted that September against the Angels and pitched seven strong innings in a loss. He spent most of 1968 in the minors, appearing in one big-league game, before returning to Oakland for 1969. He became a Brewer when the Seattle Pilots franchise relocated to Milwaukee for 1970 and pitched his final big-league season there, hitting a three-run homer in a win over the White Sox. He finished his four-year career with a 4-8 record and a 5.00 ERA over 34 games. On October 20, 1970, he was traded with Jerry McNertney and minor leaguer Jesse Huggins to the St. Louis Cardinals for Carl Taylor and Jim Ellis.
