1970 Topps #259 Tommie Reynolds

About Tommie Reynolds
Tommie Reynolds was the last strikeout victim of Seattle Pilots right-hander Dick Bates at Sick's Stadium on April 27, 1969. Over his career he hit .424, going 36 for 85, against four All-Stars: Hank Aguirre, Mickey Lolich, Sam McDowell and Juan Pizarro. The second-series #259 in the 1970 Topps set shows him with the Athletics, though he spent 1970 with the Angels.
Tommie D. Reynolds was a Louisiana-born outfielder who signed with the Kansas City Athletics as an amateur free agent in 1963 and led the Midwest League in batting average that year with the Burlington Bees. He broke into the majors that September and stayed with the Athletics through 1965, later playing for the New York Mets, the relocated Oakland Athletics, the California Angels and the Milwaukee Brewers before his career ended in 1972. An average defensive outfielder who usually played left field, Reynolds was also used often as a pinch hitter. His best season came in 1969 with Oakland, when he played 107 games and batted .257 with 51 runs scored. Over 513 career games he hit .226 with 12 home runs. He drove in 87 runs and scored 141. After retiring he coached for the Oakland Athletics and the St. Louis Cardinals. He was a cousin of former outfielder Floyd Robinson.
