About Barry Moore

Moore began 1970 with Cleveland, which is how his series 3 card, #366, shows him, and on June 15 the Indians sent him and Bob Miller to the White Sox for Buddy Bradford and Tommie Sisk. He finished 3-9 with a 5.30 ERA in 141 innings and hit nine batters, tying for third in the American League. On December 3 the White Sox dealt him to the Yankees for Bill Robinson.

Robert Barry Moore was a left-handed pitcher from Statesville, North Carolina, signed by the Washington Senators as an amateur free agent before the 1962 season. He debuted in relief on May 29, 1965 against the Minnesota Twins, and spent 1965-1969 with Washington before finishing his career in 1970 split between the Cleveland Indians and Chicago White Sox. His finest outing came against the Twins at D.C. Stadium on April 30, 1967, a one-hit complete-game shutout of a lineup that included Rod Carew and Harmon Killebrew. Moore had a tendency to be wild, walking 300 batters in 599 2/3 innings, a rate well above the league average of the time, while striking out 278. Over six major league seasons he went 26-37 with a 4.16 ERA in 140 pitching appearances. He completed eight games, threw one shutout and recorded three saves. At the plate he finished with a .151 career average.
