He hit .275 with 14 home runs and 81 RBI for Tucson in 1971, and the White Sox sent him to the Phillies for minor league catcher Gerardo Rodriguez that December 13.
William Henry Robinson Jr. played sixteen big-league seasons, 1966 to 1983, as an outfielder who also logged time at first and third base, debuting with the Atlanta Braves as a pinch runner for Hank Aaron. Traded to the Yankees, he spent his time there mostly as a fourth outfielder before moving on to the Phillies and then the Pirates, where he set career highs in 1977 with a .304 average, 26 home runs and 104 RBIs. He reached the postseason with Pittsburgh in 1975 and 1979, going 5-for-19 in the 1979 World Series as the Pirates rallied past Baltimore. Career totals: a .258 average, 166 home runs and 641 RBIs. After retiring in 1983, Robinson became a hitting coach for the Mets, mentoring Darryl Strawberry and other young players, and later coached for the Marlins. He collected three World Series rings across his playing and coaching roles and died in 2007.
