1970 Topps #341 Bill Sudakis

About Bill Sudakis
Manager Walter Alston's experiment with Sudakis at catcher seemed to end in mid-May 1970 and returned only in the second game of an August 15 doubleheader against the Cubs. Sudakis also played 37 games at third base, scored 37 runs and stole 4 bases. Card #341, from the third series, lists him with the Dodgers.
William Paul Sudakis signed with the Los Angeles Dodgers out of Joliet Township High School in Illinois in 1964. A switch-hitting infielder, he worked his way through the Dodgers system, hitting 23 home runs for Santa Barbara in 1966 and sharing Texas League MVP honors after a big 1968 season at Albuquerque. He debuted with Los Angeles as a September call-up in 1968 and took over as the starting third baseman. Primarily a third baseman, he also caught and played first base over an eight-season career with the Dodgers, Mets, Rangers, Yankees, Angels and Indians. He was part of a group of young Dodgers nicknamed "The Mod Squad" and appeared on the cover of Sports Illustrated with them in May 1969. He finished his major league career in 1975 and later played in the Kansas City Royals system before retiring. Sudakis died on September 15, 2021.
