About Bob Robertson

Card #664 is a high number, from the seventh series. Robertson broke into the Pirates' regular lineup in 1970, playing 117 games alongside Roberto Clemente, Bill Mazeroski and Willie Stargell, and drove in 82 runs. On August 1 at Atlanta he and Stargell each had five hits in a 20-10 win over the Braves, and no Pirate teammates matched that again until Andrew McCutchen and Garrett Jones in 2010. He had one hit in five NLCS at-bats as Cincinnati swept Pittsburgh.

Robert Eugene Robertson, born October 2, 1946 in Frostburg, Maryland, and raised in Mount Savage, was a first baseman who played parts of eleven big league seasons, mostly with the Pittsburgh Pirates. Touted early as a power prospect after leading the minor leagues in home runs three times, he played on the Pirates teams that won five National League East titles in six years from 1970 to 1975. In 1970 he batted .287 with 27 home runs. In the 1971 postseason he hit six home runs, three of them in one NLCS game, a single-postseason record that went unsurpassed for three decades, and he helped Pittsburgh beat Baltimore in the World Series. After knee surgery in 1974 he moved into part-time roles, closing his career with the Seattle Mariners and Toronto Blue Jays. He appeared in 829 games and hit .242 with 115 home runs.
