1970 Topps #107 Bobby Etheridge

About Bobby Etheridge
Bobby Etheridge's last major league game came on October 2, 1969, when he started at third base for the Giants at Candlestick Park, batted second and went 0-for-4 in a 3-2 loss to San Diego. He finished that season with 34 hits in 131 at-bats and one home run. His 1970 Topps card, #107, is in the first series and shows him with the Giants.
Bobby Lamar Etheridge was a third baseman who played two seasons of college baseball at Mississippi State University and signed with the San Francisco Giants as an amateur free agent in 1964. He spent three seasons in the Giants' farm system before debuting in the majors on July 16, 1967, entering as a late-inning defensive replacement against the Chicago Cubs at Candlestick Park. Etheridge spent his rookie season playing behind third baseman Jim Ray Hart, appearing in 40 games and earning a spot on Topps' 1967 All-Star Rookie team. He spent the entire 1968 season with the Pacific Coast League's Phoenix Giants before rejoining San Francisco for the 1969 opening day. At the close of that season he was traded, along with Bob Barton and Ron Herbel, to the San Diego Padres for pitcher Frank Reberger. Etheridge continued playing in the minor leagues, later in the New York Mets organization, through 1973 without another major league appearance.
