The story on this card

Card #69, in the League Leaders subset of the first series, lists the 1969 National League wins race. Tom Seaver of the New York Mets won 25 games and took the Cy Young Award in the year the Mets won the World Series. Phil Niekro of the Atlanta Braves won 23, and his 23rd victory clinched the Western Division; he finished second to Seaver in the Cy Young voting. Fergie Jenkins of the Chicago Cubs won 21 and led the league with 273 strikeouts. Juan Marichal of the San Francisco Giants also won 21, with a 2.10 ERA and eight shutouts.

Tom Seaver won 311 games and three National League Cy Young Awards across 20 seasons. The Mets' right-hander helped win the 1969 World Series and entered the Hall of Fame in 1992. Phil Niekro, Knucksie, rode a knuckleball through 24 seasons to 318 wins, a 3.35 ERA, five All-Star teams and five Gold Gloves, nearly all of it with the Braves; the only knuckleballer to reach 300 wins, he entered the Hall of Fame in 1997. Fergie Jenkins was the control artist at the front of the Cubs rotation, winning 20 games in six straight seasons and the 1971 National League Cy Young Award on his way to 284 wins, 3,192 strikeouts and a 1991 Hall of Fame plaque. Juan Marichal, the high-kicking Dominican Dandy, won 191 games in the 1960s, more than any other pitcher. He made nine All-Star teams, won 243 games in all and in 1983 became the first Dominican-born Hall of Famer.
