About Dave Boswell

Boswell went 3-7 with a 6.42 ERA in 18 games for the 1970 Twins. He struck out 45 in 68 2/3 innings, and the Twins released him. His 1971 Topps card, #675 in the sixth series, still lists him with the Twins, while he pitched that year for Detroit and Baltimore.

Dave Boswell was a hard-throwing right-hander who debuted with the Minnesota Twins in 1964 at age 19 and spent eight major league seasons, all in the American League, with the Twins, Detroit Tigers and Baltimore Orioles. He averaged 14 wins and over 200 innings across a four-year stretch from 1966 to 1969, leading the AL in winning percentage in 1966 and winning a career-high 20 games in 1969, when Minnesota captured the first AL West title. Boswell pitched for the pennant-winning 1965 Twins in their World Series loss to the Los Angeles Dodgers. He started Game Two of the 1969 ALCS against Baltimore, a 1-0 loss in 11 innings in which he hurt his arm, an injury he later called career-ending. That season he also fought teammate Bob Allison and manager Billy Martin outside a Detroit bar. Boswell batted .202 for his career and finished in 1971 with a 68-56 record and 3.52 ERA. He died in 2012 at age 67.
