The story on this card

Card #61 in the first series of 1971 Topps is the American League batting leaders board for 1970, the first card of the League Leaders subset (#61-72). Alex Johnson of the California Angels is printed first, then Carl Yastrzemski of the Boston Red Sox and Tony Oliva of the Minnesota Twins. Johnson won the title at .329, passing Yastrzemski with two hits on the last day of the season, .3289 to .3286. Yastrzemski's .329 was a career high. Oliva finished third at .325 and led the league with 204 hits for the fifth time.

Alex Johnson - a right-handed outfielder who won the 1970 American League batting title with California and played for eight clubs between 1964 and 1976, finishing with a .288 career average. Carl Yastrzemski, 'Yaz,' gave Boston all 23 of his seasons, following Ted Williams in left field. He won the 1967 Triple Crown and MVP, three batting titles, seven Gold Gloves and 18 All-Star nods, and reached Cooperstown on the first ballot in 1989. Tony Oliva - Minnesota's smooth-swinging Cuban right fielder, the 1964 American League Rookie of the Year and a three-time batting champion who made the All-Star team in each of his first eight full seasons before knee injuries took over; Cooperstown called in December 2021.
