1971 Topps #60 Dick Bosman

About Dick Bosman
Bosman went 12-16 with a 3.73 ERA in 1971 and still led the Senators in wins, starts and innings. He worked 236 2/3 innings in 35 starts for a club that finished 63-96. Denny McLain, acquired in the winter, went 10-22 beside him. Card #60 shows him with Washington and came out in the first series.
Richard Allen Bosman was a right-handed pitcher who spent eight seasons with the Washington Senators and Texas Rangers before finishing his career with Cleveland and Oakland. Signed by Pittsburgh in 1963, he was later drafted by the Senators and debuted in the majors on June 1, 1966. In 1969, under new manager Ted Williams, Bosman went 14-5 and led the American League with a 2.19 ERA as Washington posted its first winning season in franchise history. He started both the last game in Senators history and the first game in Rangers history. On July 19, 1974, pitching for Cleveland, he no-hit the defending World Series champion Oakland Athletics, missing a perfect game only because of his own fielding error. He closed his playing days with Oakland in 1975-76, then worked as a pitching coach for the White Sox, Orioles and Rangers and in the Rays' system.
