Dick Such was a 6-foot-4 right-handed pitcher from Sanford, North Carolina, whose playing career in the majors lasted one season with the Washington Senators and whose longer career came in the dugout as a pitching coach. He pitched at Elon College and signed with Washington after the 1966 draft. With York of the Eastern League in 1967 he posted a 2.81 ERA in 128 innings but went 0-16. He retired as a player during the 1973 season and began coaching in the Texas Rangers farm system in 1975. He was the Rangers' major league pitching coach from 1983 to midseason 1985 under Doug Rader. From 1986 through 2001 he was pitching coach of the Minnesota Twins under Ray Miller and Tom Kelly, a stretch that included the 1987 and 1991 World Series championships. He later coached in the Boston Red Sox system at Salem, Greenville and in the Gulf Coast League.
