The story on this card
Davison's 1970 season began on June 5, when the Giants called on him out of the bullpen, and he finished it with 31 relief appearances after pitching two innings for San Francisco the year before. He posted a 6.50 ERA with 21 strikeouts in 36 innings. Card #276 puts him on a Rookie Stars panel with George Foster, both listed with the Giants, and it is the rookie card for each. It was a Series Three issue. Left-handed reliever from Galesburg, Illinois, who pitched for the San Francisco Giants in 1969 and 1970 after a stint at Double-A Springfield in 1965. He died in Glencoe, Minnesota, in 2013.
Foster opened 1971 as a fourth outfielder behind Willie Mays, Bobby Bonds and Ken Henderson, then was dealt to Cincinnati on May 29. With Bobby Tolan lost to an Achilles injury, he played center field for the Reds, and on September 16 in San Francisco he hit an eighth-inning grand slam off Don McMahon against his old club. He finished at .241 with 13 home runs overall. His #276 is a third-series Rookie Stars card shared with Giants teammate Mike Davison, the rookie card for both. Outfielder for the Cincinnati Reds' Big Red Machine and the New York Mets. He won the 1977 National League MVP award with 52 home runs and 149 RBI, led the league in RBI three straight years, and hit 348 home runs.
