1971 Topps #313 Tom Hall

About Tom Hall
Card #313 in the third series of 1971 Topps shows Hall with the Twins, a year after an 11-6 season with a 2.55 ERA. He went 4-7 with a 3.33 ERA in 1971, striking out 137 in 129 2/3 innings. The Twins fell out of contention and traded him to Cincinnati for Wayne Granger on December 3.
Tom Hall was a left-handed pitcher who spent ten seasons in the majors from 1968 to 1977 with the Minnesota Twins, Cincinnati Reds, New York Mets and Kansas City Royals. Listed at 6 feet and 150 pounds, he earned the nickname "the Blade" for his slender build. The Twins drafted him in the third round of the 1966 amateur draft, and he rose quickly through their minor league system before debuting in June 1968. Hall worked as both a starter and a reliever for Minnesota until a December 1971 trade sent him to Cincinnati. There he pitched in a bullpen with Clay Carroll and Pedro Borbon for the early Big Red Machine teams that won a National League pennant in 1972. He reached the postseason with three of his four clubs, Minnesota, Cincinnati and Kansas City. After his career ended in 1977, Hall worked as a supervisor at an aerospace company and later as a United States Postal Service mail carrier for two decades.
