About Bob Robertson

Bob Robertson hit .193 in 1972, with 12 home runs, as Pittsburgh reached the NLCS and lost to Cincinnati three games to two. He played 115 games, 89 of them at first base and 23 in the outfield. Pirates announcer Bob Prince called him the Mount Savage Strongboy and once said he could hit a ball out of any park, Yellowstone included. Topps gave him two cards in the fourth series, #429 and the In Action #430, both with the Pirates.

Robert Eugene Robertson, born October 2, 1946 in Frostburg, Maryland, and raised in Mount Savage, was a first baseman who played parts of eleven big league seasons, mostly with the Pittsburgh Pirates. Touted early as a power prospect after leading the minor leagues in home runs three times, he played on the Pirates teams that won five National League East titles in six years from 1970 to 1975. In 1970 he batted .287 with 27 home runs. In the 1971 postseason he hit six home runs, three of them in one NLCS game, a single-postseason record that went unsurpassed for three decades, and he helped Pittsburgh beat Baltimore in the World Series. After knee surgery in 1974 he moved into part-time roles, closing his career with the Seattle Mariners and Toronto Blue Jays. He appeared in 829 games and hit .242 with 115 home runs.
