1972 Topps #321 Joe Lahoud

About Joe Lahoud
On July 4, 1971, Lahoud hit two home runs and drove in three at Fenway Park in a win over the Yankees. That October Boston traded him and Billy Conigliaro to Milwaukee in a ten-player deal that included George Scott and Jim Lonborg. Brewers general manager Frank Lane, already impressed by his home run total, then saw him offer to come to spring training two weeks early at his own expense. Topps issued him as #321 in the third print series, with the Brewers.
Joe Lahoud was a left-handed-hitting outfielder from Danbury, Connecticut, the son of a Lebanese-American hatter and an Irish-American mother. Signed by Red Sox scout Bots Nekola in 1965, he climbed through Winston-Salem before an eye-catching spring training 1968 earned him a big-league look, filling in for the injured Tony Conigliaro. Over eleven seasons he played for Boston, Milwaukee, California, Texas and Kansas City, spending most of his Red Sox years as a fourth outfielder squeezed behind Carl Yastrzemski, Reggie Smith and Conigliaro. He hit three home runs in a single game against the Twins in June 1969, off three different pitchers. A blockbuster ten-player trade sent him to Milwaukee after the 1971 season, and he later moved on through California, Texas and Kansas City before his career ended in 1978. He finished with a .223 average, 65 home runs and 218 RBIs across 791 games.
