1972 Topps #153 Rick Auerbach

About Rick Auerbach
Auerbach played a career-high 153 games at shortstop for Milwaukee in 1972 and hit .218 with 30 RBIs. He led off for part of the year and hit .198 there, then hit .303 with 21 RBIs from the eighth spot. His 1972 Topps #153 was printed with the Brewers and is a recognised rookie card.
Rick Auerbach grew up in Woodland Hills, California, and went to Taft High School. The California Angels drafted him in the 13th round in 1968, but he played at Los Angeles Pierce College instead, and the expansion Seattle Pilots took him in the 1969 secondary draft. He reached Milwaukee in 1971 and played 11 major league seasons, with the Brewers, Dodgers, Reds and Mariners, finishing with a .220 average, 9 home runs and 86 RBIs. Most of his work was as a shortstop and utility infielder behind the regulars. He played in two National League Championship Series, in 1974 with the Dodgers and in 1979 with the Reds. His pro career ended after 1981 with Seattle, and he later worked as a farrier and, as of 2012, lived in Calabasas, California.
