John Strohmayer was a right-handed pitcher from Belle Fourche, South Dakota, who worked for the Montreal Expos from 1970 to 1973 and closed his career with the New York Mets in 1974. The Oakland Athletics drafted him in 1968, and he made his debut on April 29, 1970. He finished 11-9 with a 4.47 ERA and 200 strikeouts. His 142 games included 17 starts. The Pacific Athletics Hall of Fame inducted him in 1989 for his play with the Pacific Tigers. A shoulder injury ended his playing days, and he went back to school for an education degree. He taught at Central Valley High School in Redding, California, from 1976 to 1991 and coached its basketball team to the Division III state title in March 1989. He later served as the school's principal and became superintendent of the Gateway Unified School District in 2002, retiring in 2009. Strohmayer died in Redding on November 28, 2019.
