About Ken Boswell In Action

Boswell set career highs in 1971 with 116 games and 107 hits as the Mets' regular second baseman. He hit .273 with 5 home runs and 40 RBI, but shoulder tendinitis hampered him late in the season and carried into the next year. Topps gave him two third-series cards in 1972: #305 is his regular issue and #306 is the matching In Action card, both with the Mets.

Kenneth George Boswell, born February 23, 1946 in Austin, Texas, was a second baseman who spent eight of his eleven big-league seasons with the New York Mets. A fourth-round pick out of Sam Houston State in 1965, he debuted in September 1967 and earned a spot on the Topps All-Star Rookie Team as the Mets' second baseman in 1968. Known early for a strong bat but shaky glove, Boswell rebuilt his defense and strung together an 85-game errorless streak in 1970. He played for the 1969 Miracle Mets, batting .333 in both the NLCS and World Series as New York won its first championship, and he also appeared in the 1973 postseason. After the Mets acquired Felix Millan, Boswell's role shrank, and he was traded to Houston following the 1974 season, closing his career there in 1977 as a utility infielder and frequent pinch hitter. He finished with a .248 career average over 930 games.
