The story on this card
Fahey's only 1971 major league time was two games with Washington in late September, eight at-bats without a hit, before the franchise moved to Arlington. His #334 Rookie Stars card, from the third series, is printed with the Texas Rangers and shared with Jim Mason and Tom Ragland, a rookie card for all three. In 1972 he caught 39 games and got his first hit on July 28 off the Angels' Clyde Wright. Backup catcher for the Senators, Rangers, Padres and Tigers from 1971 to 1983. The first overall pick of the January 1970 secondary draft, he lost playing time to a punctured lung, a broken nose and a broken hand, and later coached for the Giants.
Mason spent the start of 1972 back at Denver and was recalled in late July, staying in the majors for good with the Rangers, who had just moved from Washington. He hit .197 in 46 games, with 10 of them at third base. Topps #334 is a Rookie Stars card shared with Bill Fahey and Tom Ragland, all three printed with Texas, and it is the rookie card for each. Shortstop for the Senators/Rangers, Yankees, Blue Jays and Expos from 1971 to 1979. He hit four doubles in one game in 1974 and homered in his lone World Series at-bat in 1976, finishing with a .203 average in 634 games.
Ragland shares card #334 with Bill Fahey and Jim Mason, all three printed as Texas Rangers and all three appearing on their rookie cards. In 1971 Ragland played 10 games and hit .174 with four singles, the first of them off Roger Moret at Boston on September 24. Tom Ragland was a second baseman with the Senators, Rangers and Indians from 1971 to 1973. He scored the last run in Washington's franchise history on September 30, 1971, and hit .257 as Cleveland's regular second baseman in 1973.
