1972 Topps #333 Steve Barber

About Steve Barber
Barber made 39 appearances for Atlanta in 1971, including 3 starts, and finished 3-1 with 2 saves. His 1972 Topps #333 was a third-series Braves card. Atlanta released him in May, and he joined California; his combined ERA for the two clubs that season was 2.81.
Steve Barber pitched left-handed for 7 major league clubs over 15 seasons, finishing with 121 wins, 1,309 strikeouts and a 3.36 ERA. Baltimore scout Walter Youse sent him to the Orioles' minor league camp in 1957, where he earned a contract. After 3 seasons in the low minors, Barber demanded that general manager Lee MacPhail send him to the Florida Instructional League. Harry Brecheen worked on his delivery and slider there. Barber later owned automotive businesses and worked as a dealership manager and hearing-aid salesman. He also drove a school bus for children with disabilities. The Orioles inducted him into their team Hall of Fame in 1988.
