1972 Topps #340 Roy White

About Roy White
White finished fourth in the American League in doubles in 1972 and hit .270 with 10 home runs and 54 RBI. His speed placed him ninth in the league in steals and eighth in runs scored. Topps put his #340 in the third series of its 1972 set, and the card carries the Yankees.
Roy White was a switch-hitting outfielder who spent his entire 15-year major league career with the New York Yankees, from 1965 through 1979. Signed out of Compton, California, he broke in as a September call-up in 1965 and by 1968 had claimed the everyday left field job, even hitting cleanup behind Mickey Mantle late that season. White made the American League All-Star team in 1969 and 1970, led the league in walks in 1972 and in runs scored in 1976, and set an AL record with 17 sacrifice flies in 1971. He played on three straight Yankees pennant winners from 1976 to 1978 and won back-to-back World Series titles in 1977 and 1978. He finished with a .271 career batting average, 160 home runs, and 233 stolen bases, and later coached for the Yankees.
