1972 Topps #662 Stan Bahnsen

About Stan Bahnsen
The Yankees traded Bahnsen to the White Sox for Rich McKinney on December 2, 1971. His 1972 Topps card, sixth-series #662, listed Chicago. He won 21 games in 41 starts that season, including his September 12 victory over Kansas City, when he and Rich Gossage combined on a 6-hit shutout.
Stan Bahnsen pitched 16 major-league seasons for the Yankees, White Sox, Athletics, Expos, Angels and Phillies, winning the 1968 American League Rookie of the Year award with New York. The Yankees drafted the Nebraska right-hander in the fourth round in 1965 after he earned All-Big Eight and third-team All-America honors. Nebraska fans nicknamed him the "Bahnsen Burner." With Chicago, he worked in Chuck Tanner's three-man rotation. His later nickname, "Stanley Struggle," referred to his habit of pitching out of jams. He finished his major-league career in 1982 with California and Philadelphia, then pitched for Triple-A Portland in 1983. His major-league totals included 146 wins, 1,359 strikeouts and 20 saves. He entered the Iowa Sports Hall of Fame in 2009.
