About Steve Dunning
Dunning started 16 games in 1972 and went 6-4 with a 3.26 ERA. He pitched 105 innings with 52 strikeouts. At the plate he hit three home runs in 33 at-bats. Topps numbered his Cleveland card #658 in the sixth series.
Steve Dunning was a right-handed pitcher who worked in the majors from 1970 to 1977 for Cleveland, Texas, California, Montreal and Oakland, going 23-41 with a 4.56 ERA. Born in Denver, he was Cleveland's first-round pick in the 1970 draft and went straight to the big leagues without a day in the minors, the second player to do so after being drafted. He debuted on June 14, 1970. On May 11, 1971, he hit a grand slam off Oakland's Diego Segui, the last by an American League pitcher until Felix Hernandez in 2008. Cleveland traded him to Texas for Dick Bosman and Ted Ford on May 10, 1973. He was then dealt to the White Sox for Stan Perzanowski in February 1975, and with Bill Melton to the Angels in December 1975. Montreal sent him to St. Louis in a November 1976 trade. He became an attorney in 1982.
