About Tim Foli In Action

Foli's two 1972 cards show him with the Mets, but on April 5 New York sent him with Ken Singleton and Mike Jorgensen to Montreal for Rusty Staub. He took over at shortstop for the Expos, playing 148 games there. He hit .241 with his first two major-league home runs and 35 RBI. On September 9 he made three errors in one inning in an 8-3 loss to the Pirates.

Tim Foli was a shortstop who played 16 seasons, 1970 through 1985, for the Mets, Expos, Giants, Pirates, Angels and Yankees. The Mets made him the first overall pick of the 1968 draft out of Notre Dame High School in Sherman Oaks, California, after he hit .562 as a senior. A contact hitter who rarely struck out, he led league shortstops in fielding percentage in 1980 and 1982, and finished with a .251 average and 25 home runs in 1,696 games. His fiery temper produced fights with a teammate, a Mets coach and opposing players. He was the starting shortstop on the Pirates team that won the 1979 World Series. He later coached for the Rangers, Brewers, Royals, Reds and Mets organization and managed Washington's Triple-A clubs. Teammates called him Crazy Horse for the way he paced the dugout.
