1972 Topps #245 Tommie Agee

About Tommie Agee
Agee batted .227 in 1972 with 13 home runs in 114 games, and his 47 RBI were second on the Mets. On November 27 the Mets sent him to Houston for Rich Chiles and Buddy Harris at the Winter Meetings. His #245 in the second series of the 1972 Topps set shows him with New York.
Tommie Agee was a center fielder who broke in with Cleveland in 1962, moved to the Chicago White Sox in a three-team trade after the 1964 season, and was a key part of the 1969 Miracle Mets. He grew up in Mobile, Alabama with future Mets teammate Cleon Jones, then signed with Cleveland after one season at Grambling State. In Chicago he won the 1966 AL Rookie of the Year award and a Gold Glove after homering more than 20 times and stealing more than 40 bases as a rookie, then made a second All-Star team in 1967. Traded to New York after the 1967 season, he led the 1969 Mets in homers and RBIs, and homered twice in the NLCS sweep of Atlanta. In Game 3 of the World Series he hit a leadoff home run and made two catches that potentially saved five runs in a 5-0 Mets win over Baltimore. He closed his career with Houston and St. Louis and died in 2001.
