About this card

The story on this card

Eddy made Chicago's Opening Day roster in 1971 after Chuck Tanner said in spring training that "Eddy can be our most dependable pitcher in short relief." His two decisions were both April losses: Reggie Jackson's 10th-inning home run beat him 5-4 on April 16, and a bases-loaded walk to Carl Yastrzemski decided a 5-4 loss to Boston on April 25. He finished the season with a 2.38 ERA in 22 games. Card #413, a fourth-series White Sox Rookie Stars card, is his rookie card and is shared with Dave Lemonds. Left-handed reliever for the Chicago White Sox in 1970 and 1971, going 0-2 with a 2.36 ERA over 29 games. He won 18 games for Class A Appleton in 1969, and Tucson teammates nicknamed him "The Vulture."

Lemonds pitched in 31 games for the 1972 White Sox, 18 of them starts, and finished 4-7. He posted a 2.95 ERA and struck out 69 in 94 2/3 innings. Topps #413, a fourth-series card, put him beside Don Eddy under the Rookie Stars banner for the White Sox; it was Eddy's rookie card. Dave Lemonds played for Charlotte Post 9 under his father, Jack. Their American Legion team reached consecutive national championship games in 1964 and 1965, winning the title in 1965.
