About Ken Tatum
Tatum spent 1973 with Pawtucket, where he started 11 games and relieved in 21. He went 8-12 with a 4.81 ERA. Boston called him up in September for one game, four innings at a 9.00 ERA. On October 26 the Red Sox sent him and Reggie Smith to the St. Louis Cardinals for Bernie Carbo and Rick Wise. St. Louis traded him to the White Sox in April 1974, and he pitched ten games there before retiring. Card #463, from the fourth series, lists him with Boston.
Ken Tatum was a right-handed reliever who pitched in 176 games over six seasons, 1969 to 1974, for the California Angels, Boston Red Sox and Chicago White Sox, all but two of them in relief. A Mississippi State pitcher who was All-Southeastern Conference in 1965 and 1966, he signed with the Angels in June 1966 and was converted from starter to reliever in 1969. Called up in May of that year, he posted a 1.36 ERA with 22 saves and placed fourth in American League Rookie of the Year voting. His career finished at 16-12 with 52 saves and a 2.93 ERA. He later earned a master's degree in secondary school administration at Northeastern University while with Boston, and put it to work after baseball.
