About Lee Lacy
Lacy reached the majors on June 30, 1972, from El Paso, hit .259 in 60 games and lost the end of the year to a knee strain from Hal McRae's slide on September 4. He opened 1973 as the regular second baseman, was benched for Davey Lopes after hitting .226 through 16 games, and finished at .207 in 57 games with a .222 slugging percentage. His rookie card is #391, from the third series, with the Dodgers.
Lee Lacy was a right-handed hitter who played 16 seasons, 1972 to 1987, for the Dodgers, Braves, Pirates and Orioles, batting .286 with 91 home runs and 185 steals in 1,523 games. He grew up in Oakland, starred at McClymonds High School, and was a second-round pick of the Dodgers in January 1969. He reached Los Angeles as a second baseman, then spent most of his Dodgers years as a utility man behind the Garvey, Lopes, Russell and Cey infield. He set a major league record with three consecutive pinch-hit home runs in 1978 and appeared in four World Series: 1974, 1977 and 1978 with the Dodgers and 1979 with Pittsburgh. His best seasons came with the Pirates, where he hit .335 in 1980 and .321 with 152 hits in 1984. He was caught up in the Pittsburgh drug trials and received a 60-day suspension in 1986. That June, with Baltimore, he hit three home runs and drove in six in an 18-9 win over the Yankees. His daughter Jennifer Lacy played in the WNBA.
