The story on this card

Card #208 closes the League Leaders run in 1974 Topps with the 1973 saves board. John Hiller, printed with the Detroit Tigers, saved 38 games, a major league record. His 1.44 ERA came over 125 1/3 innings in 65 relief appearances. Mike Marshall, printed with the Montreal Expos, led the National League with 31 saves and 92 games pitched. His record was 14-11 with a 2.66 ERA. The Sporting News named both men its Fireman of the Year in their leagues. Marshall was traded to the Dodgers for Willie Davis on December 5, 1973.

John Hiller - Toronto-born Tigers reliever who survived a 1971 heart attack to return to the mound, setting a since-broken major league saves record of 38 in 1973 and making the 1974 All-Star team. Mike Marshall - a right-handed reliever who set a major league record for games pitched in a season and became the first reliever to win a Cy Young Award, pitching for nine teams over 14 seasons.
