1974 Topps #63 Bill Sudakis

About Bill Sudakis
Sudakis came to the Rangers from the Mets in spring training 1973 and hit a career-high 15 home runs in 82 games, mostly at first and third base. His contract was purchased by the Yankees after the season. His 1974 Topps card, #63, still lists him with Texas. In 1974 he played 89 games for New York, batting .232 with seven home runs and 39 RBI.
William Paul Sudakis signed with the Los Angeles Dodgers out of Joliet Township High School in Illinois in 1964. A switch-hitting infielder, he worked his way through the Dodgers system, hitting 23 home runs for Santa Barbara in 1966 and sharing Texas League MVP honors after a big 1968 season at Albuquerque. He debuted with Los Angeles as a September call-up in 1968 and took over as the starting third baseman. Primarily a third baseman, he also caught and played first base over an eight-season career with the Dodgers, Mets, Rangers, Yankees, Angels and Indians. He was part of a group of young Dodgers nicknamed "The Mod Squad" and appeared on the cover of Sports Illustrated with them in May 1969. He finished his major league career in 1975 and later played in the Kansas City Royals system before retiring. Sudakis died on September 15, 2021.
