1974 Topps #62 Bob Locker

About Bob Locker
Bob Locker pitched in the National League for the first time in 1973, after Oakland traded him to the Cubs for Billy North. He went 10-6 with a 2.54 ERA and 18 saves. He pitched 106 1/3 innings in 63 games. His 1974 Topps #62 shows him as a Cub, though the Cubs sent him back to the Athletics for Horacio Pina on December 3, 1973, and elbow surgery kept him out of the 1974 season.
Bob Locker was a right-handed relief pitcher from George, Iowa, who built his career on a sinker he could throw with full fastball velocity. A geology graduate of Iowa State, he lost two seasons to military service before reaching the majors at age 27 in 1965. He pitched for the Chicago White Sox, Seattle Pilots, Milwaukee Brewers, Oakland Athletics and Chicago Cubs. In Chicago he worked in a bullpen that led the league in ERA for four straight years, and in Oakland he was part of the team that won the 1972 World Series. He finished with a 2.75 career ERA and 95 saves over 576 games, all in relief.
