About this card

Cards #331-339 are the nine All-Star cards, each pairing an American League and a National League player at one position, from the catchers (Carlton Fisk and Johnny Bench, #331) to the pitchers (Jim Hunter and Rick Wise, #339). Their backs form a picture of Bobby Bonds, the previous season's All-Star Game MVP.

The story on this card

Topps gave right field in its 1974 All-Stars subset to one American Leaguer and one National Leaguer. Reggie Jackson, printed with the Oakland Athletics, had led the American League in 1973 with 32 home runs and 117 RBI and won the league MVP award. Billy Williams, printed with the Chicago Cubs, was a 1973 National League All-Star after hitting .333 with 37 home runs and 122 RBI the year before. Card #338 belongs to the All-Stars subset (#331-339), and the backs of those cards form a single picture puzzle of Bobby Bonds, the 1973 All-Star Game MVP.

Oakland outfielder Reggie Jackson attended Arizona State on a football scholarship. He played summer baseball for Walter Youse's amateur team in Baltimore before taking over Arizona State's center-field job from Rick Monday. Billy Williams, the sweet-swinging left fielder who played beside Ernie Banks and Ron Santo on the Cubs, won a batting title and a Rookie of the Year award and once played 1,117 games in a row.
