The story on this card
Card #334 covers third base in the 1974 Topps All-Stars subset (#331-339), with Brooks Robinson of the Baltimore Orioles for the American League and Ron Santo of the Chicago Cubs for the National League. Santo is pictured with the Cubs, yet he spent 1974 with the White Sox. He used the ten-and-five rule to veto a trade to the Angels on December 8, 1973, then went across town in a deal made official December 11. He hit .221 with 5 home runs and retired at 34. Robinson hit .288 and won a Gold Glove at third, and the Orioles lost the ALCS to Oakland three games to one.
Brooks Robinson played third base for the Baltimore Orioles across 23 seasons, winning 16 straight Gold Gloves and the 1964 AL MVP award; his fielding and hitting against Cincinnati made him MVP of the 1970 World Series. Ron Santo played third base for the Chicago Cubs through the 1960s, a nine-time All-Star and five-time Gold Glove winner who hid his diabetes for years, later called Cubs games on the radio, and reached the Hall of Fame in 2012.
