1974 Topps #485 Felipe Alou

About Felipe Alou
Alou spent 1973 with the Yankees, then the Expos claimed him off waivers on September 6 and he collected 10 hits in 19 games for Montreal. He finished the year at .232 with 5 home runs in 112 games. Card #485 in the 1974 Topps set carries the Expos. Milwaukee bought him from Montreal after the season, and he played three games for the Brewers before his release on April 29, 1974.
Felipe Rojas Alou was born May 12, 1935, in Haina, Dominican Republic, and signed with the New York Giants in November 1955 for $200. He debuted with San Francisco on June 8, 1958, the second Dominican-born player to reach the majors after Ozzie Virgil, and played seventeen seasons (1958-1974) as an outfielder and first baseman for the Giants, Braves, Athletics, Yankees, Expos and Brewers. He batted .286 with 2,101 hits and 206 home runs, made three All-Star teams (1962, 1966, 1968) and led the National League in hits twice and in runs once. He, Matty and Jesus Alou formed the only all-brother outfield in major-league history, and his son Moises Alou followed him to the majors. Alou later became the first Dominican-born manager in big-league history, guiding the Montreal Expos from 1992 to 2001 and the San Francisco Giants from 2003 to 2006, finishing 1,033-1,021. He is in the Canadian Baseball Hall of Fame (2015) and the Caribbean Baseball Hall of Fame (2016).
