About this card

Cards #1-6 are the Aaron Special subset that opens the set: #1 Hank Aaron: New All-Time Home Run King, then five career-recap cards (#2-6), four seasons to a card, 1954-1957 through 1970-1973. #2, #3 and #4 show the Milwaukee Braves, his club in those seasons before the franchise moved to Atlanta, and are correct as printed.

The story on this card

Card #2 is the second of the six Hank Aaron tribute cards that open the 1974 Topps set, issued while he stood at 713 home runs after the 1973 season. It summarizes 1954 through 1957 and shows his earlier Topps cards on the front. His 1954 rookie season ended with a broken ankle on September 5, after 13 home runs. In 1957 he hit 44 home runs, drove in 132 and won the National League MVP award. On September 23 of that year, his two-run homer in the 11th inning beat St. Louis and clinched the pennant, and Milwaukee beat the Yankees in seven games. His 1957 Topps card had been printed as a photographic reverse, with the number 44 backward.

Hank Aaron spent 23 major-league seasons with the Braves and Brewers. The right fielder passed Babe Ruth's career home run record in 1974 and finished with 755 home runs and 3,771 hits.
