The story on this card
Card #332 is the first-base entry in the All-Stars subset (#331-339) of the 1974 Topps set. It pairs Dick Allen of the Chicago White Sox with Hank Aaron of the Atlanta Braves, one man from each league. Allen was the 1972 American League MVP and a 1973 All-Star, led the American League in home runs in 1974 and left the White Sox on September 14 of that year. Aaron finished 1973 with 713 home runs and hit number 715 off Al Downing on April 8, 1974. The All-Stars backs carry no statistics and form a picture puzzle of Bobby Bonds, the 1973 All-Star Game MVP.
Phillies and White Sox infielder Dick Allen had been a starting basketball guard at Wampum High School. He and brothers Hank and Ron each earned All-State basketball honors before all three reached the major leagues. Hank Aaron spent 23 major-league seasons with the Braves and Brewers. The right fielder passed Babe Ruth's career home run record in 1974 and finished with 755 home runs and 3,771 hits.
