About Indians Field Leaders (Ken Aspromonte / Clay Bryant / Tony Pacheco)
Rehired in September 1973, Aspromonte returned as Cleveland's manager for 1974. Topps paired him with coaches Clay Bryant and Tony Pacheco on #521. He managed a 77-85 season, but Cleveland announced before its end that his contract would not be renewed. Frank Robinson succeeded him as player-manager for 1975. A right-handed second baseman for six American and National League clubs from 1957 to 1963, Ken Aspromonte later played three seasons in Japan and managed the Cleveland Indians for three years in the early 1970s.
Bryant spent the last decade of his baseball career in the Cleveland Indians organization, working as a roving pitching instructor and as the big-league club's pitching coach in 1967 and 1974. Cleveland's manager-and-coaches card is #521, shared by Ken Aspromonte, Bryant and Tony Pacheco, all three printed with the Indians. Clay Bryant pitched for the Chicago Cubs from 1935 to 1940, winning 19 games and leading the National League with 135 strikeouts in the 1938 pennant year. He later managed in the Dodgers' farm system and coached pitchers for the Indians.
After managing Cleveland's Double-A club in San Antonio in 1973, Pacheco joined Ken Aspromonte's major league staff for 1974. Topps paired him with Aspromonte and coach Clay Bryant on the Indians' #521. Pacheco returned to managing with the Gulf Coast Indians in 1975. Tony Pacheco played and managed in Havana before working as a scout and minor league manager in the United States. His major league coaching assignments were with the Cleveland Indians and Houston Astros.
