About Jim Lyttle
In 1973 Lyttle batted .259 with four home runs and 19 RBIs for Montreal. In 1974 he appeared in 25 games for the Expos, most of them as an outfielder, and went 3 for 9 with two RBIs. Card #437 shows Montreal as his club.
Jim Lyttle was a left-handed-hitting outfielder who played eight major league seasons, 1969 to 1976, with the Yankees, White Sox, Expos and Dodgers, then became a star in Japan. A four-sport athlete at North Dearborn High School, where he set a school basketball record with 1,072 career points, he went to Florida State and earned first-team All-American baseball honors. The Yankees took him with the 10th pick of the 1966 draft. He debuted May 17, 1969, and hit .248 with nine home runs in 391 major league games. In 1977 he signed with the Hiroshima Toyo Carp and batted cleanup beside Koji Yamamoto and Sachio Kinugasa. He won four straight outfield Golden Gloves from 1978, was Japan Series MVP in the Carp's victory over Kintetsu, and in 1981 led the league in hits while batting .318 with 33 home runs and 100 RBIs. His six seasons with Hiroshima are the most by a non-Japanese player on the club. He finished with the Nankai Hawks in 1983.
