1974 Topps #407 Jim Wohlford

About Jim Wohlford
The 1974 Royals played Wohlford in the outfield in 138 of his 143 games. He hit .271, and his 501 at-bats were the only time in his career he went past 500 in a season. He stole 16 bases, drove in 44 runs and scored 55. His 1974 Topps card is #407, with the Royals.
Jim Wohlford was a right-handed outfielder who spent 15 major-league seasons with the Kansas City Royals, Milwaukee Brewers, San Francisco Giants and Montreal Expos. A native of Visalia, California, he played most of his career as a reserve, typically in left field, and was often used as a defensive replacement because of his fielding. He debuted on September 1, 1972, and played his last game on October 5, 1986. He hit .260 over 1,220 games. His 793 hits included 21 home runs, and he stole 89 bases. In 1984 with the Expos he hit .300 with five home runs in 95 games. He became known for the line "Ninety percent of this game is half-mental." After baseball, Wohlford worked as a financial planner in Visalia.
