The story on this card
Tom Seaver led the 1975 National League with 22 wins against 9 losses for the Mets and took his third Cy Young Award. Randy Jones of the Padres won 20 and posted a 2.24 ERA over 285 innings. Andy Messersmith of the Dodgers won 19 with a 2.29 ERA. He started 40 games and pitched 321 2/3 innings while unsigned and playing under the reserve clause. Card #199 is the wins board in the 1976 Topps League Leaders subset.
Tom Seaver won 311 games and three National League Cy Young Awards across 20 seasons. The Mets' right-hander helped win the 1969 World Series and entered the Hall of Fame in 1992. Sinkerball left-hander Randy Jones won the 1976 NL Cy Young Award for the Padres after a 20-win 1975. A nerve injury ended his peak, and he finished 100-123 with a 3.42 ERA, a Padres Hall of Famer. Andy Messersmith made four All-Star teams and won two Gold Gloves during a 12-season pitching career. His successful 1975 arbitration case with Dave McNally ended clubs' claims to unlimited annual contract renewals.
