About Hank Webb

Webb pitched in 29 games for the 1975 Mets, 15 of them starts. He went 7-6 with a 4.07 ERA over 115 innings. Three of his outings went the distance, one a shutout. At the plate he hit .258, 8 for 31. His 1976 Topps card, #442, pictures him with the Mets.

Hank Webb was a right-handed pitcher who worked for the New York Mets from 1972 to 1976 and closed his career with the Los Angeles Dodgers in 1977. On September 11, 1974, he pitched the 25th inning of the Mets' 4-3 loss to the St. Louis Cardinals at Shea Stadium, the longest game played to a decision in National League history. With Bake McBride on first, his pickoff throw got past John Milner, McBride scored all the way from first base, and Webb took the loss, the first decision of his career. The error was the only one charged to him in the majors. That June he had pitched a seven-inning, 1-0 no-hitter for the Tidewater Tides of the International League. Across 53 major-league games, 19 of them starts, he went 7-9 with a 4.31 ERA. He is the father of three sons, Kevin, Kyle and former major-league pitcher Ryan Webb.
