1976 Topps #286 Jim Wohlford

About Jim Wohlford
Kansas City reached the 1976 American League Championship Series, and Wohlford went 2-for-12 as the Yankees won it three games to two on Chris Chambliss's walk-off home run in the bottom of the ninth of Game 5. Chambliss connected against Royals reliever Mark Littell. During the season Wohlford hit .249 and stole 22 bases. Topps numbered his 1976 card #286 and printed it with the Royals.
Jim Wohlford was a right-handed outfielder who spent 15 major-league seasons with the Kansas City Royals, Milwaukee Brewers, San Francisco Giants and Montreal Expos. A native of Visalia, California, he played most of his career as a reserve, typically in left field, and was often used as a defensive replacement because of his fielding. He debuted on September 1, 1972, and played his last game on October 5, 1986. He hit .260 over 1,220 games. His 793 hits included 21 home runs, and he stole 89 bases. In 1984 with the Expos he hit .300 with five home runs in 95 games. He became known for the line "Ninety percent of this game is half-mental." After baseball, Wohlford worked as a financial planner in Visalia.
