About Pat Darcy

Darcy made the Reds' 1976 rotation out of a shortened spring training and won his April 11 start against Houston, but lost the spot five days later after allowing 12 baserunners in six innings against San Francisco. He finished 2-3 with a 6.23 ERA in 11 games and 39 innings before an option to Indianapolis on June 16. His 1976 Topps card, #538, shows him with the Cincinnati Reds.

Pat Darcy was a right-handed pitcher who spent his entire major league career, 1974 to 1976, with the Cincinnati Reds. He was the reliever who threw the pitch Carlton Fisk hit off the left-field foul pole to win Game 6 of the 1975 World Series in the 12th inning. Born in Troy, Ohio, he grew up in Tucson, Arizona, pitched at Rincon High School and Mesa Community College, and signed with the Houston Astros as a free agent in 1969. Houston traded him to Cincinnati in February 1974 for Denis Menke. After a September 1974 call-up from Indianapolis, he went 11-5 with a 3.58 ERA in 1975 as the Reds' fifth starter, winning his last nine decisions, and the Reds beat Boston in seven games. A lost rotation spot led to his option back to Indianapolis in June 1976, where shoulder trouble followed, and he never returned to the majors. His career line was 14-8 with a 4.15 ERA in 44 games. He later settled in Tucson, worked in real estate and radio, and was inducted into the Pima County Sports Hall of Fame in 1995.
