1976 Topps #254 Rudy Meoli

About Rudy Meoli
Meoli's 1975 was his last year in an Angels uniform. He played 70 games, 28 of them at shortstop and 15 at third base. He hit .214 with 27 hits in 126 at-bats. The 1976 Topps card, #254, still lists him with the Angels.
Rudy Meoli was a left-handed-hitting infielder who played 310 major league games across six seasons with the California Angels, Chicago Cubs and Philadelphia Phillies. The Angels took him in the fourth round of the 1969 draft out of Royal Oak High School in Covina, California. In the majors he played 147 games at shortstop, 54 at third base and 41 at second. His best year was 1973, when he started 87 games at shortstop and set career highs with 120 games, 68 hits and 23 RBI. Both of his big-league home runs came that summer, off Joe Coleman and Gene Garber, and he drove in six runs against Kansas City in a 19-8 Angels win. Dave Chalk replaced him at short in 1974, and the Angels traded him to San Diego after 1975. He spent 1976 and 1977 in the Cincinnati Reds system, then returned as a utility man with the Cubs in 1978 and the Phillies in 1979. He finished with a .212 average, 133 hits and 40 RBI, and retired after 1979.
